Professional Treatments for Thread Veins

Professional Treatments include:

  • Microsclerotherapy
  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
  • Veinwave TM
  • Lasers

Microsclerotherapy

This is the treatment of choice for moderate sized thread veins on the legs. A solution called a sclerosant containing either sodium tetradecyl sulphate or polidocanol is mixed with air or a physiological gas (CO₂) in a syringe. This solution is then injected directly into the target vein using a very fine needle  causing inflammation of the vein. The target vein immediately shrinks and then dissolves over a few weeks as the body naturally absorbs the treated vein.

Microsclerotherapy cannot be used to treat thread veins on the face.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL treatment for thread veins is non-invasive and gentle. It can be used to treat facial blood vessels and very small spider veins anywhere on the body. IPL selectively heats and destroys the target blood vessel just below the surface of the skin. The target blood vessel will disappear over a course of treatments while also improving the overall appearance of the skin.

IPL can also treat age spots, sun-induced freckles, rosacea, birthmarks and acne scarring.

Veinwave

Veinwave is a new technique using radio frequencies developed by leading vascular surgeons. Radio frequency waves heat the blood vessel making it disappearance instantly, a process called thermo-coagulation.

Veinwave is able to treat thread veins that are too small for microsclerotherapy treatment. This treatment can be used on any sized thread veins anywhere on the body including the face. Veinwave is also used to treat psoriasis and rosacea.

Veinwave treatment provide rapid results in only 1 session, treating up to 30-50cm area of thread veins. No bruising or bandages are needed and skin can be exposed to the sun straight away.

Laser

The laser light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the unwanted blood vessel. The light is converted into heat energy which causes coagulation of the blood and destroys the vein, which is then later absorbed by the body.

Yellow Star Laser

A non-ablative laser using Copper bromide Green (511 nm) and Yellow (578 nm) light wavelengths. It is the green wavelength that treats superficial blood vessels including thread veins. The yellow wavelength treats hyperpigmented scars (brown). A combination of green and yellow wavelengths is used to treat age spots and some forms of hyperpigmentation (where there is red and brown scarring).

This laser requires a practitioner who is very experienced and has a good track record.

Some experts believe the yellow star laser to be less effective than other types of laser to treat thread veins.
