Cheaper ways to treat cellulite at home

Anybody who has cellulite will understand what distress it can cause a person. Unfortunately not everyone can afford the expensive cosmetic treatments endorsed by celebrities.

First thing first, is your cellulite aggravated by a sedentary lifestyle? Do you spend all day sat at a desk in front of a computer? Being more active should be the first step in treating your cellulite. And it will cost you absolutely nothing. Of course you have to be motivated and work hard at it to achieve results. Aim for about three 1 hour sessions of cardiovascular exercise a week. Go for a run or a power walk in the fresh air. This will get your circulation pumping and increase oxygen and nutrients to your skin. Your lymphatic circulation will also be increased removing toxins and excess fluid in the skin layers that contribute to cellulite. Weight bearing exercises are also important in cellulite reduction. Building more muscle will reduce the appearance of cellulite. Increasing your muscle mass will also increase your metabolic rate, meaning you burn more calories even at rest: losing weight becomes easier!

Compression Shorts/Leggings: They can be bought for about £20-£40. Compression shorts apply specific pressure to areas of the leg to increase blood and lymphatic flow. The lymphatic circulation has to work extra hard against gravity to flow back up the legs, which means lymph fluid builds up in the legs especially in the ankles and calves. Compression shorts also stimulate pressure receptors on cells called fibroblasts that are responsible for producing collagen. Increasing collagen will improve the structure of the skin and the appearance of cellulite.

Dry Body Brushing: This is done for about 10 minutes daily using a simple body brush. A body brush can be bought from just £5 from boots. Body brushing is carried out in the direction of the heart to stimulate the circulation of the skin. Fat deposits are broken down and flushed away via the increased circulation. The action also removes dead skin cells which promotes the growth of fresh smoother skin.

Cellulite Creams: They don’t cost much and can make a real difference to cellulite if applied daily and massaged into the skin. Look for creams containing caffeine or aminophylline (these stimulate fat cells to break down fat).Other ingredients that will help cellulite are retinoic acid, gotu kola and glycrrhetinic acid.

Microneedling: changes the structure of the skin to reduce cellulite. Fine needles of only a few millimetres in length cause microtrauma of the skin inducing the natural healing process of the skin. This causes the release of growth factors and the production of new bands of collagen. However, this process will take a few months of treatment to see results. Microneedling is done at home using a derma roller which can be bought for as cheap as £10. The higher quality derma rollers are typically £50.
